New Hampshire Forest Career Field Day
May 5, 2022, Bear Brook State Park
Thank you, volunteers
We would like to thank everyone who volunteered at the New Hampshire Forest Career Field Day! We hosted over 200 students and introduced them to more than 30 vendors representing the various careers available in our industry. This event would not have been possible without assistance from our volunteers.
One young woman was heard to announce to her fellow students that “This was the best day ever” and at one young man told one of our volunteers he “has found his career.”
Again, thank you for your time and involvement – we are truly grateful for your partnership.
Workforce shortages are a persistent and growing trend in New Hampshire’s forest products industry. Contributing to this is a dwindling number of young adults entering our industry. Eighteen months ago, the NHTOA organized a steering committee to identify the challenges and barriers to educating and recruiting young adults for our industry. Using survey data from high school students and educators, the committee is exploring the possibility of developing a forest products industry training program for high school students. This program has two goals:
- Make students, guidance counselors, and school administrators aware of career opportunities in the forest products industry;
- Provide entry-level understanding, hands-on training, and tangible certification for high school students interested in pursuing careers in the forest products industry.
To kick off this program, and to gauge interest in expanding this effort, the committee is organizing a New Hampshire Forest Industry Career Field Day for May 5, 2022.
