Forest Educational Workshops

The NH Professional Loggers Program Spring 2007 training season will start March 31st. There will be a PDF of the NH PLP Spring 2008 Brochure as soon as it is approved by the Timber Harvesting Council to be downloaded and/or printed. If you would like to register for classes via email please email Deb Park offmgr@nhtoa.org your contact information and which classes you would like to attend.

Please note that there will be a Hydraulics Course in the Hopkinton area, but the date has not been finalized yet. It will be posted as soon as that information is available.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:

1. To provide standards of training within the timber harvesting industry of the state.

2. To conduct training programs which benefit loggers by improving work efficiency, safety and environmental awareness.

3. To provide public and professional recognition for loggers completing training programs.

4. To improve awareness and compliance of timber harvesting and wetlands laws and regulations.

WHO MAY APPLY?

Any person gainfully employed in the harvesting of timber to include manual or mechanical felling, limbing, bucking, skidding, trucking or chipping. This person may be a business owners, contractor or employee of a business that make timber harvesting it primary work. Residents of surrounding states conducting 25% or more of their business in New Hampshire may also qualify.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATION

COURSE WORK:
Cutters, Equipment Operators and all others engaged in logging operations are expected to complete:

First Aid & CPR
Safe and Productive Felling Practices*
Timber Harvesting Law
Fundamentals of Forestry

*Mechanized loggers may substitute Mechanized Harvesting for Safe & Productive Felling.

Truckers are expected to complete:

Safe Trucking
First Aid & CPR
Timber Harvesting Law
Electives: must pick one of the following:
Safe and Productive Felling
Fundamentals of Forestry

TIMETABLE
Those individuals hoping to become certified should complete the required course work within two calendar years. It is possible to repeat courses taken earlier if the two years have gone by. NH certification is valid for four years. First Aid & CPR should be renewed every two years.
