About Us
WHO WE ARE
History: Founded in 1911, The NHTOA began as a small group of landowners concerned with the threat of forest fires. For almost 100 hundred years, we’ve been at the forefront of any issue threatening New Hampshire’s working forests.
Today: The NHTOA is a non-profit statewide coalition of landowners, forest industry professionals, government officials, and supporters who work together to promote better forest management, conserve our working forests, and insure a strong forest products industry.
A corner stone of the NHTOA is the recognition that landowners and industry rely upon each other to conserve our shared forestland. Landowners need to generate funds to pay taxes and avoid development, while industry needs a well-managed forest to run their businesses and New Hampshire’s economy.
Future: We strive to conserve New Hampshire’s working forests for future generations through public and industry education, legislative advocacy, outreach, and cooperation within the forest community.
WHAT WE DO
Education: Helping people learn about our forests and how to responsibly manage them and teaching industry better ways to do business.
Advocacy: Keeping opinion leaders and lawmakers aware of the impact their decisions have on our working forestland.
Outreach: Teaching people about forestland and demonstrate how a working forest will help conserve the land for future generations.
Cooperation: Cooperating with the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire’s Forests, Project Learning Tree, UNH Thompson School, UNH Cooperative Extension, SPACE, the New Hampshire Farm Bureau, and community oriented people like you, we can work together to conserve New Hampshire’s most valuable resource…our forests.
